on a business level, he pays for the asset, and injuries are a real problem for him as an owner. if the olympics has insurance to pay off salary for missed games and the nba grants significant cap relief to compensate for injured players, that would be one thing, but they don't.
on a fan level, we build the olympics up as if it has some special significance, but it really doesn't. it's a luxury for all of us - and a welcome one at that - but owners of sports teams have the potential much more significant losses that would have to be accounted for.
