Im not really sure if he should be in the conversation, considering he has only played this well for very short perioid. But if you look at the voting, I think he actually deserves it more than several guys before him in voting. Lot of those guys get votes based on earlier achcievments.
Amare: AB scores more (22 vs 18), with better percentage (49FG% vs 41FG%). He does grab one rebound less in a game, but he gives out more assists, has more blocks, and turns it over less.
Pierce: Socring AB:22, PP:15. FG% AB: 49%, PP: 39%. Rebs AB: 6,5, PP: 4,9. Assists AB: 1,9 PP: 3,9. TO's AB 2,0 PP: 2,5.
Not saying AB is an all-star, but he should be considered before some of the guys that get more votes, when coaches decide. After all you cant blame his lack of defense so much anymore as he has shown that he can be at least decent. His P'n'R defense has always been pretty good (I mentioned years back, that he is so much better than e.g. Bosh
and he is superior to guys like Ed Davis now), he can defend pretty well one on one against bigs, and now he has effort all around. He is still lacking in help D, but still not even close to worst defender in Raps.
