As for older teams, regular season is never a good reflection. Like, Boston looks strongest in December and January, and after that they just flame out every year, and may or may not regain some of it. San Antonio used to peak in mid February / March. Dallas peaked in November and then again in playoffs even without home court.

There are a lot of 'what ifs' in every season.
Btw, 99 Spurs had Duncan but it was generally an old team. A ton of back to backs, and they killed it. Not just the playoffs, they played like a 70 wins team most of that season.
