With Val playing overseas, his cap hold comes off the books when a) he signs his contract overseas (he has clearly already done this) or b) on the first day of the season (this coming Halloween, roughly), whichever come later. In this case, it is the start of next season. So, for this summer, his cap hold still applies, and takes up space that could be used for free agents. However, during the season, that 2.9M cap hold will disappear until next July 1st, or when his buyout comes into effect (the end of the Lithuanian league's season, I don't know when this is) whichever is sooner. So, if the Lithuanian league runs longer than the NBA season, his cap hold will disappear from the start of this season until next summer's FA negotiations.
