The buyout comes out of the rookie contract. The drafting team doesn't pay a dime more than they're obligated.
For example, for a $4.5 million per year contract, then in year 1 Jonas would keep $1.5 million and send $3 million to Lietuvos Rytas, after that he would get the full amount.
At least, that's how I think it works. If anyone has any better information then by all means enlighten me.
I thought that the team can spend up to $500,000 of the buyout on an overseas contract with the rest coming from the player himself, not technically off the contract. At least I know that what the timberwolves could do with Rubio's contract last season.
