and Barbosa's contracts (assuming he does not opt out), they will not have a lot of money to work with on the free agency market. They have made it clear that re-signing Marc Gasol was a key objective, and I think this move prevents them from doing so.
barbosa expires after this coming season (as does posey's). Gay saves them almost $40 Million in guaranteed money by taking on Bargs
instead of him.
To me this is a move they make if they are set on keeping Gasol, although I am sure they could do it without moving Gay but who knows.
