DD has to develop a reasonable 3-point shot and mid-range game just to keep defenders honest. He doesn't need to be like Dell Curry, but he needs to be respectable in this area. Once he develops a 3-point shot, he will be a much more dangerous offensive player.
Besides Jordan, Bryant, Wade, James, Rose, etc. all had to develop their long-range games and they became even more lethal offensive players. Not to say DD can be like them, but he can be a consistent player that scores between 18 to 22 ppg.
He improved his mid-range game drastically compared to last season. He actually has a respectable mid-range shot now. No one wants DeRozan to turn into a 3 point line camper, but adding the 3 point shot to his arsenal does in fact build on his game. If hes behind the arc now, defenders don't bother closing out.. so for those situations its ideal to put up a 3 point shot instead of passing.
