What I pushed for from the start of last season, was focussing primarily on getting stops. Enough fastbreak points will come off of that with the players they have, and a halfcourt game will develop eventually. It would still mean losing, but doing so while developing the right habits and having the right foundation they could count on. Instead, for years now, we've seen an emphasis on early offense that has hurt the development of the defense. Quick bad shots that send the ball back the other way in transition do not do a lot to motivate young players to put out more effort on the defensive end.
