I don't buy this, colangelo usually makes good on his mistakes as soon as possible. Both in Phoenix (the marbury deal, dealing nash to dallas and getting him back) and in Toronto (JO lasted 3 months, turkoglu a year, kapono two years, jack one year etc), if he doesn't think a player fits, he will trade it.
the main issue with Bargnani
is finding the right time to do it so we maximize our return. Of course, there's always the option that colangelo thinks Bargnani
is a good fit, but personally I highly doubt that. It's pretty clear that he will never have the focus and intensity necessary to build a true winning team, so sooner or later we will need to upgrade the center position.
The unfortunate thing is that finding a good center outside of the draft is basically impossible, no team in their right mind trades the kind of center we'd need to upgrade bargnani. This summer there'll be a few potential candidates (perkins, chandler, gasol, oden and nene), but most likely they will all stay with their current teams.
