Hmmm ... this is interesting. This from a Spanish paper, but apparently it was the Spanish federation that helped buyout Jorge's final season and not just us. That being said, how does this affect our cap and doesn't even affect it period?
"The Spanish basketball federation agreed to pay the Raptors $4.25 million to buy out the final year of Garbajosa's contract and he has since signed a contract with a Russian professional team. "
Add in the $1 million from last summer, and $5.25 Million is quite a hefty price to pay for having a glue-guy to play a few games in the olympics over two summer.
Also, apparently Garbajosa's insistence to play in the olympics burned a couple of NBA bridges. It seems like Colangelo had the backing of the NBA on this situation.
"The 31-year-old's decision to stick with Spain didn't endear him with many of the NBA's general managers and he said he had contact with just one team before signing with BC Khimki"
