It's way easier to market an all star team than it is to market a solid but unspectacular team.
USA Basketball would be crucified for leaving any one of Lebron, Wade, Melo or Kobe off the roster, even though it doesn't really make basketball sense to carry 4 superstars at the same position.
While on the topic, has anyone seen the USA Basketball/Nike "conspiracy theory" that's being talked about with regards to the team picture? Dwight Howard, the only non-Nike sponsored player on the team, is the only player whose shoes aren't visible. It's actually pretty funny, regardless of whether it's true.
