IIRC the Knicks deal was on the table, but they wanted the pick and Babcock didn't want to include it. As soon as he was gone Embry went ahead and threw it in.
Babcock was likely the ONE GM that we've had who actually valued draft picks (which made a lot of sense at the time given the state of the team).
And Embry was seen as a hero for what? Caving in to the Knicks' demands?
