Time to heal for Raps

There is no time to feel sorry for oneself by lamenting on back-to-back beatings that exposed the team’s lack of heart and commitment.
In the NBA, memories have to be short because the season is so long, a journey filled with obstacles and the predictable ups and downs.
The latest adversity to strike the Raptors is based a lot on Chris Bosh’s ankle injury, but his setback alone does not explain a four-game losing slide, punctuated by two emphatic losses in Oklahoma City and Houston.
The Raptors have lost their way, not knowing who to turn to when times get tough, when a play needs to be made at either end and no one seems capable of stepping up.
They’ve gotten whacked by the Thunder and Rockets because the Raptors are out of whack, completely out of sync and at a loss to explain their plunge.
They’ve been down this road before and recovered. The physical discomforts will heal, but it’s the team’s collective psyche that needs mending.
The Raptors arrived back in Toronto on Tuesday and will regroup on Wednesday in preparation for Friday’s visit by the New York Knicks.
“We need to get back on track,’’ Jose Calderon began in stating the obvious. “We just need to forget the last two losses and get ready for Friday.
“You go through ups and downs and right now we’re down.”

Raptors in no mood to panic after four straight losses

It would be so much harder for them to cope with if they hadn’t been through it before, so much more difficult to deal with if they were playing at full strength.
No, these are not good times for the Raptors at all – four straight losses, the last two when they were barely competitive – but if they’ve learned anything in the first three quarters of the season, it’s that things can turn on a dime.
Or on the return of a couple injured players and the chance to play teams that have less talent in the comfort of their home gym.
“We don’t have to make a big deal about this, it’s just a couple of bad losses, that’s it,” Jose Calderon said after the latest defeat, a 116-92 drubbing in Houston on Tuesday. “We have to be ready, hopefully CB (Chris Bosh) is back, myself too and we’re ready for Friday and just play basketball.
“It happens sometimes. There are always ups and downs and we’re in a down now and as soon as possible, we have to get in an up part.”

Still some NBA drama left to happen

Four spots, five teams. It is as simple as that. A week ago, the Toronto Raptors had some separation on the pack. But heading into last night's action, 2 games separated the Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat and Charlotte Bobcats. One of those teams will miss the playoffs. With marquee free agents, the Raptors and Heat have the most to lose by failing to play into late April.
