on the topic of greasy food - anyone ever make their own fries? onion rings?
i went on a fishing trip in the fall, at a time when the fish just aren't biting. i took a bag of homemade batter for frying the fish, but we didn't catch anything worth keeping. pike are just too big a pain to clean. instead we made onion rings using the batter and deep fried them in a pot of oil over the open camp fire. one of my most proud culinary achievements. they were greasy as hell, and with a cooler full of cold beers by the lake were just about the perfect thing to eat.
