I just want to know how he plays so far off of a guy like Chalmers at such important moments last night. Does he not think about what he would be able to do given that amount of space? Maybe he does, and he thinks he would not be overly aggressive, and so he doesn't expect his opponent to be aggressive.
I give him high marks for raising the bar on defense this season, but at the same time he has such serious lapses. Offensively he is also changing his game up pretty drastically, and I respect how he's progressed so far, but he definitely has to progress further. He needs to be able to get back to the point where a shot from anywhere is as good as a layup. Right now he is still thinking as much as just playing, and the increased effort on defense has probably taken away from the work he puts into his shot.
And speaking of layups - he simply has to stop avoiding contact at all costs when going up for a layup. Look for some damn contact and go to the line. Deron Williams came close to hurting Jose the way Horford hurt TJ. He reached and grabbed at a guy that was darting to avoid contact. Jose was pissed, but he needed to be pissed at himself. He could see a guy in front of him that was on his heels and off-balance. He could have easily initiated contact, made the basket and added the freethrow. Instead he got to shoot two after picking himself up from an uglier fall then he wanted, and maybe to some extent feared.
