b) From my own personal experience, my girlfriend's cigarette addiction has potentially harmful effects on our child. It indirectly harms myself as well.
You can look at it two ways. One, people should be able to make their own decisions with the information they possess and if they happen to make the 'wrong' one, that's their problem. Or, two, people aren't smart or capable enough to make the 'proper' decision and need protection from other people in the form of denying other people (i.e. cigarette company executives and employees) their
freedom to do what they
want. When I was younger, it was always the former, but the older I get, the more it becomes the latter.
For example, you chose to be with your girlfriend.
