Ugly end to big win for Raptors

''He was scared,'' said Bosh.
Flagrant foul fells Ford

"He's going to be okay," said Calderon as if he was trying to convince himself.

"He's going to be okay."
Bryan Colangelo Sportsman of the Year 2007

Destiny almost brought him to Toronto two years earlier -- before most people had even heard of Rob Babcock. "I got a call from (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. CEO) Richard (Peddie) and he was looking to replace Glen (Grunwald) and he asked if I had an interest because that was the year my father had agreed to sell (the Suns) to Robert Sarver. But I felt obligated to the Suns for two reasons: I had just literally had a conversation with Sarver and he wanted to offer me a three-year deal as general manager ... and I'd told my father not to worry about me, that I'd be fine."

He'd also just traded for Steve Nash and, says Colangelo, "I had all our ducks lined up and wanted to see it through."

So, Peddie talked. Colangelo talked. "I gave him a few pieces of information that would help him select someone," Colangelo says.

A couple of weeks later the Raptors hired Babcock. "He didn't," Colangelo says, "take my advice, by the way."

Ugly foul casts pall on win

With Ford prone on the court after banging his head, coach Sam Mitchell stormed to the far end of the court, as much to tend to his injured player as to try to get at Horford. Mitchell also had a heated discussion with Atlanta coach Mike Woodson, who went into Mitchell's office after the game for a quick chat.
Latest on T.J.

Talked to ace Media Relations guy Jim LaBumbard a few minutes ago and T.J. has feeling and movement in his arms and legs but will stay in Piedmont Hospital here at least overnight to be assessed again in the morning.

Ford injured in Raptors win

"I just said, 'Lay back don't move,'" Parker said, "because it just seemed like he was kind of on his side. It seemed like he was panicking a little bit and started breathing hard."

Raptors win but Ford badly hurt

"I just tried to go and block the shot," Horford said. "When he went up, I went up to try to block it. He made a good move and it kind of fooled me. I really thought he was going to lay it up on one side and it he went up on the other side."

Hawks fall; Horford foul injures Ford

"I'd never do anything to hurt any player," Horford said. "I was just trying to make a good basketball play. I would never do anything on purpose to hurt anyone."

Bosh agreed. "T.J. went to the basket under control," he said, "unfortunately Al just mistimed it (the block). I don't think he meant to do it on purpose. He was just making a basketball play."

Ford's injury came on an unusual play for him

As for Horford, the consensus among the Raptors was that the rookie was just trying to make a play and got fooled by Ford, but that may not help him with the league office. He was ejected and could be suspended, especially if Ford ends up shelved for an extended period. The league office will have a couple days to deliberate since the Hawks are off until Friday.
